So The Adventure Begins

It all started when my friend Peter came out to Hawaii for a visit last December and said "hey, why don't you do the Aids Life Cycle with me?".  I thought "are you nuts?..ride my bike from San Francisco to LA? 545 miles? You have got to be kidding me?"  His response was that I was already half way there with all the triathlon training I had been doing so I thought, "what the Hell?  Why not?" and signed up.

Peter and I met when our horses, Sage and Freedom, were boarded next to each other ~18 years ago.  We've been great friends over the years even though we have drifted in and out of each others lives.  When we meet again it's as if we never parted. Peter has done this ride 10 times.  He is an inspiration to many.
My little sister and I did her first Olympic Tri, Lavaman, in April. So the training began there. (BTW-Great Job Lynnie!) After that, the focus tuned to the bike.  Distance was the goal.  I trained with friends from my bike club in HI, The Coffee Talk Riders, on my own and with my new friend Floyd who was a great coach and riding buddy.  Floyd has done the Tour de Colorado on many occasions and although he tried to prepare me for the pain of saddle sores, I just didn't get it...I get it now Floyd ;0.
